Grandad Robbie always made me laugh!

By Lucy Shiels

I AM Grandad Robbie's eighth grandchild. I remember when I was about three years old I went to visit him. At this time he lived in Bargany, near Girvan on the West Coast. I remember one time going through the woods with him my mum and younger brother Cameron. I remember seeing these little baby frogs they were so cute.

At this time of life I only ever saw him when it was New Year or family parties which is pretty upsetting when I look back now. When he moved to live near Duns things started to change I saw him almost every weekend as we got the bus down to Haddington where he would meet us and take us back to his house. As we got there on a Friday night Top Of The Pops was on so we would sit and watch it. I remember how he would sit in his green chair and do funny dance moves which always made me laugh.

When he moved to Cavers near Hawick we had just moved to Selkirk so we saw him all the time. My dad was doing up the house and it wasn't habitable at that time so we lived with Grandad Robbie which was really fun. When we moved into our own house we still went over to his on a Friday night and stay there til late Saturday afternoon.

I have lots of memories of staying with him like how we watched Fame Academy and laughed at all the contestants and how he always told funny jokes, which were still funny even after hearing them a number of times!

I especially remember the last weekend I spent with him. I had just started country dancing and he was teaching me the setting step he told me that next weekend he would teach me Highland dancing. That Tuesday I was going to turn ten so as we were leaving I remember saying, "next time you see me I'll be ten years old!" Unfortunately he never got to see me when I was 10 or teach me Highland dancing which really upsets me.

When I look back on my memories I realise that what I had with my grandad is precious and that I should be thankful that I got to spend all this time with him as some people don't have as many memories as me.

We would be delighted to include your memories.
